Claudia Wegener reports for “working women worldwide”, annual report by a foundation of the Austrian Trade Unions
“In Zubo’s experience, it is with the women’s economic participation that their overall standard of living improves and their self-confidence and self-esteem increase. The women are then more inclined to participate in community decision-making. This participation in turn leads to changes in social practices and power relations, which start at family level and eventually mobilise social action and ultimately lead to political participation. Zubo Trust accompanies this process with training and capacity building among their business women’s cooperatives. Thus for example, an association was successfully established to represent the fisherwomen and their concerns in meetings of the local fisheries union. A particular success in 2018 was the invitation of the Bbindawuko Banakazi to participate in the international conference on fisheries resource management in Kenya.”
