International Funding Partners

UN Women

UN Women supported the thrust of Zubo Trust, of empowering women economically. The partnership lasted for 6 years backdating to 2010. Zubo Trust through the financial support from the partner broke new grounds as it managed to procure the first-ever women fishing equipment (Kapenta Rig) which enabled the rural women to venture into the ‘male dominated’ kapenta fishing industry. In addition, it enabled the organization to establish market linkages for the rural women’s natural resources in Binga District. More so it enhanced the economic empowerment activities of the rural women.

Welthaus Bielefeld

Zubo Trust's partnership with Welthaus Bielefeld has through its funding resulted in the inaugural Jatropha Soap Production workshop for the rural women in Binga District. This led to the exportation of over 12500 pieces of the natural jatropha soaps to Germany. Since February 2015, Zubo Trust through financial support from Welthaus Bielefeld has been instrumental in the capacity building of the soap production team members, jatropha seed collectors, craft weavers and staff at large. Currently, we are thrilled to be working together in spreading awareness on the prevention and spread of the COVID-19 virus. Hence, increasing the resilience of the rural women, men and vulnerable communities in the Binga district. The response has been overwhelming as they are the right holders of the program.

Caritas

The organization has not networked with Caritas despite opportunities that may benefit the organization. Linking up and networking is crucial

UNDP

The organization has not worked directly with UNDP but has worked through its partners. There is potential for engaging them for new opportunities.

United Methodist Committee on Relief

The organization has not networked with them however they are supportive to Zubo’s call. Engaging them maybe an opportunity for Zubo.

Action Aid Zimbabwe

The organization has not networked with them however they are supportive to Zubo’s call. Engaging them maybe an opportunity for Zubo.

ZIMTRADE

Zimtrade’s response has been positive. However, more engagement is required so that women’s products reach the desired markets.

Basilwizi Trust

Worked together on women empowerment programs in the district. They have been our lead partner always

Binga Craft Centre

The response has been positive to Zubo programming especially on the ilala baskets project. More engagement is required so that the craft weavers reach out to organizations with already markets such as Lupane Women Centre

US Embassy

Zubo Trust through the financial support from this partner (US Embassy Self Help funds) managed to refurbish Tuligwasye solar-powered nutrition garden in Simatelele ward. Currently, the women are growing vegetables for their own consumption and for sale

Padare

Had positive response from Padare though not pursued further for the benefit of the men in the district.

There has been not much dialogue with these stakeholders; future engagement may result in some reasonable results.

Global Green Grants

Zubo Trust through the financial support from Green grants purchased water pumps and other related accessories for a fish farming project in Simatelele ward in Binga district in 2017-2018. They also funded training on fish farming to the rural women, funded the purchase of feed for the fingerlings and the refurbishment of the pond. Currently, Zubo, with the financial enablement from this partner, is in the process of maintaining the Tuligwasye Banakazi garden fence and doing capacity building training on fish management.

Men and women in general

Some of the men and women’s response is positive while some needs more awareness raising. They still cling to tradition and cultural beliefs

Lupane Women Centre

The partnership with Lupane Women Centre has proved to be life-changing for rural women. The partnership yielded fruits and still is. Zubo Trust collaborated with Lupane Women Development Centre to ensure that the rural women are trained on quality control of hand-woven baskets. Additionally, Zubo with the technical guidance from Lupane Women Development Centre facilitated a market base for the women products.

Virginia Gilder sleeve International Fund (VGIF)

The support from VGIF was for a year (2015-2016). The funding enabled the beneficiaries to actively participate in community-based programs which ultimately led to the construction of a fish pond at Tuligwasye Banakazi project in Simatelele ward as integration to their garden project

Netherlands Development Organization SNV

In 2014-2015, Zubo Trust with the financial support from Netherlands Development Organization managed to strengthen the community capacity on sustainable utilization of natural resources and refurbishment of equipment to the one and only rural women Kapenta Production Unit, Bbindawuko Banakazi Kapenta Fishing Cooperative Society.

African Women Development Fund (AWDF)

AWDF provided a grant from 2015-2016. The partner supported (funded) Zubo to mobilize producer groups into associations to undertake advocacy activities, educate women on issues of modern aquaculture methods, access to fisheries rights, regulations, water and land use and links the associations to markets.

German Boeckler Foundation’s Solidarity Fund

The partnership with Boeckler Foundation in 2015-16 strengthened the organization’s conduct of quality field recordings for documentation and communication purposes. Digital audio recorders, laptop and studio accessories were procured and are being used to research and document women’s stories by women on village-level and Zubo office team. All We Can

All We Can has been an instrumental partner in our organizational development including the creation of our strategic plan (2018-2022), and the capacity building of our governing body, staff and the rural women at large. The partnership has enabled us to enhance access, utilization and management of natural resources at the rural women’s disposal. Currently, All We Can is supporting our work on improving awareness and preventative measures against the COVID-19 pandemic to the rural women, men and vulnerable communities in the Binga district.

Bread for the World (BftW)

Zubo through the partnership with Bread for the World managed to facilitate the construction of the first-ever training conference block for rural women at the Zubo Women’s Centre in 2019. The block has a 50 person capacity and accessible to all (including people living with different abilities). The rural women intend to hold most of their business management, strategic communication skills, gender equality training dialogue meetings, and other empowerment sessions for the rural women at the Women Centre as soon as the Conference block is launched.

Netherlands Embassy Small Project Fund (NESPF)

The Strengthening Small and Medium Enterprises Competitiveness through a Matching Grant Facility was received in 2014 and lasted for 9 months. This partnership through funding supported the thrust of Zubo Trust as it helped to strengthen small scale women producers, including establishing commodity and producer associations. It helped in policy engagement and lobbying strategies in the areas of commercialization of agricultural and fisheries produce including the relationship between the public and private sector.

Lupane State University

The partnership that we have with Lupane State University has been of benefit to the implementation of our projects since 2019. The academic institution has been instrumental in the provision of technical expertise on two of Zubo Trust's projects: the modern installation of solar-powered water systems for the rural women’s nutrition garden in Simatelele Ward and the installation of solar-powered water system at the Women Centre. This collaboration has led to the enhanced skills of the garden beneficiaries in water management systems, land management, drying methods, storage and packaging, irrigation management systems and group formation.

Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology

The partnership with Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MUAST) began in 2020 with a focus on exploring potential collaborative opportunities related to research, innovation projects and training in order to enhance women’s sustainable livelihoods portfolios through increased access, conservation and benefit-sharing of resources in the Zambezi valley in Binga.

Women Film Makers of Zimbabwe

The partnership with (WoFmZ) backdates to 2015. One of the strategic objectives of Zubo Trust is to enlighten and ensure that women fully know and exercise their human rights. In that light, Zubo Trust partnered with (WoFmZ). The work involved the screening of videos on women rights issues, gender-based violence, 16 days of activism and children’s rights. The partnership enabled the organization to execute its strategic goal while it lasted. It largely brought visual insight to district stakeholders, local leaders and community members at large on issues that affect the disproportionate violence faced by women and girls in the society

EMIC Media

We initially worked with EMIC Media in 2014.http://SDG Review: The Importance of Collaboration in the Digital Economy. EMIC Media played a crucial role in promoting monitoring and evaluation, ensuring that Zubo projects are in line with the relevant SDGs. In 2017, our site smashed and EMIC re-created it. Through this partner, Zubo was connected to and became a beneficiary of the GiveBack projects for multimedia representation. This encompassed a fully funded and hosted website and on-going multimedia coverage for two years (2019-2020). Currently EMIC is managing the Zubo website in collaboration with the organization.

Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program

The support from the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program spanned from 2015 to 2018. This partnership enabled Zubo trust (through funding) to implement the biodiversity and ecotourism project in Siamuloba. The preoccupation of Zubo on this project was to construct a Tonga cultural village at Siamuloba village - Simatelele Ward for local and international tourists. However, though the project was not completed due to financial constraints, the support enabled the community construct to identify vital products that included Namande Mountain, Siamuloba Cultural village, and Campsite and Malala Fishing site.

Cotswold Foundation

Since 2017, Cotswold Foundation has been instrumental in supporting (through funding), the efforts of Zubo Trust of championing women economic empowerment through the promotion of Village Saving and Lending Schemes. Rural women have been pooling together financial resources for their own investment in order to increase their income levels. Soft loans have been provided to the village savings and lending groups through Zubo to kick start the process given the effects of climate change and continuous drought in the Binga District. Results for the period 2018-2019: At the grass-root level, the following achievements were noted;  Supporting children’s livelihoods,  Rural women managed to accumulate household utensils,  Purchasing of livestock such as goats,  Improving the nutritional wellbeing of their families and paying school fees for their children. Currently, the partner is financing the regeneration of ilala palm (Hyphaene peteriana) in a bid to support art and crafts among rural women.
